Breen, Fernandes Collect UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week Accolade

Sam Breen and Noah Fernandes have earned the honor for the third and second time this season, respectively.
AMHERST, Mass. – Graduate student Sam Breen of women's basketball and junior Noah Fernandes of men's basketball have been named the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive. The honor marks the third time this season for Breen and the second time for Fernandes.
Breen averaged 21.7 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game and 1.7 assists per game, as the Minutewomen went 3-0 in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, collecting their first A-10 Title in program history. Against Fordham, the graduate student shot a 63.6 field goal percentage (7-for-11) and 80.0 percent from the free throw line (4-for-5), tallying 18 points. She added six assists, as well. The Gibsonia, Pa., native accumulated a season-high 28 points, shooting 13-of-19 (.684) from the field, including making two of her four attempts from beyond the arc. Breen also registered nine rebounds, two assists, one block and four steals. She put a team-leading 19 points in the A-10 Championship game vs. Dayton, making 8-of-16 from the field and knocking down 3-of-7 (.429) attempts from behind the three-point arc, while recording nine rebounds, two assists and two swipes.
Noah Fernandes averaged 16.3 points per game over three games last week to help the Minutemen to a 2-1 record. Fernandes capped off the week by scoring a career-high 28 points in an 83-80 road win at George Mason on Saturday. The guard shot over 52-percent from the field in the win and made 4-of-6 from 3-point range. On Wednesday, Fernandes dished out six assists in a win over Fordham in the home finale and posted 13 points and four assists at Fordham on Monday.
