Minutemen Fall At Bonnies In A-10 Opener, 83-64

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The University of Massachusetts men's basketball team dropped its Atlantic 10 opener on the road at St. Bonaventure 83-64 on Saturday afternoon. Isaac Kante posted his first double-double at UMass with 12 points and a season-high 10 rebounds as part of four Minutemen (9-4 Overall, 0-1 Atlantic 10) in double figures.

Brandon Martin finished with season-highs in both points with 12 and rebounds with eight while knocking down his first two triples of the season. Noah Fernandes made his return after missing the last five contests and posted 13 points and three assists. RJ Luis joined the four Minutemen in double figures with 11 points on 4-of-6 from the field.

St. Bonaventure (7-7 Overall, 1-0 Atlantic 10) was led by a game-high 31 points Daryl Banks III while Yan Farell added 22 points. The Bonnies shot just under 50-percent for the game and knocked down 13-of-31 shot attempts from 3-point range, including a 52-percent clip from the field in the second half as they built their lead to as many as 26 with just under 10 minutes to go.

The Bonnies began the day by knocking down 13-of-23 shots from the field to take a 36-19 lead with 6:59 left in the first half. The Minutemen trailed by 15 at the break and trimmed the deficit down to 11 at 48-37 with 16:49 remaining before a 10-2 scoring run by St. Bonaventure gave them a 58-39 lead.

UMass shot 42-percent from the field in the second half and 39-percent for the game while outrebounding St. Bonaventure 36-29. Matt Cross added five rebounds for the Minutemen.

The Minutemen return to the Mullins Center for their first league game at home when they host Saint Louis on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
