AMHERST, Mass. -Ā The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team hosts its first home meet of the 2022-23 season on Saturday. Both the men and the women will take on Binghamton while Vermont will compete as well on the women's side.
Home Sweet Home
Saturday's meet marks the first meet of the season for UMass in the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool. Diving will begin at 9:45 with the women's 1-Meter and men's 3-Meter and continues until 11:45 a.m. The swimming competition begins at 1 p.m. with the 200 Medley Relay. In The Record Books
Caroline Mahoney clocked in a time of 50.88 in the 100 Free at the Terrier Invitational to rank eighth-fastest all-time at UMass on her way to a runner-up finish. Maggie Desmond also added a top-10 program mark with a swim of 1:03.91 in the 100 Back to rank fifth-fastest.
800 Free Relay
The Minutemen won the 800 Free Relay to close out day two of the Terrier Invitational with a time of 6:42.73 set by Emerson Kiefer, Eric Eastham, Wilson Dubois, and Juan Montori.
Relay Record
The Minutewomen set a new program-record in the 200 Medley Relay at the Terrier Invitational as Megan Mitchell, Maggie Desmond, Summer Pierce, and Caroline Mahoney combined for a time of 1:41.99. In addition to their program record, the relay team also added a top-three finish in the 400 Medley Relay on the opening day of competition at the Terrier.
On The Podium
Maggie Desmond posted a third-place finish in the 100 Back on day two of the Terrier while Noah Witt added a third-place finish for the Minutemen in the 100 Back with a time of 49.79. UMass closed out action at the Terrier on the final day with five podium finishers. Caroline Mahoney's runner-up finish in the 100 Free along with Summer Pierce's third-place showing in the 200 Fly led the Minutewomen. For the Minutemen, Jamie Macdonald took second in the 200 Fly as part of three Minutemen on the podium on the final day. Eric Eastham took third in the 200 Back while Sammy Quigg claimed third in the 100 Free.
Looking Ahead
UMass breaks until after the new year following Saturday's meet and returns to competition at Bryant on Jan. 7. The Minutemen and Minutewomen then head to Hanover, N.H. on Jan. 20-21 for the Tate Ramsden Invitational at Dartmouth.
