Award given to the top FBS senior long snapper
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts long snapper Evan Deckers has been named to the Patrick Mannelly Award Watch List, announced Monday by the organization. The award is presented to the top senior long snapper in FBS football.
In a 2020 season abbreviated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Deckers served as Massachusetts' primary long-snapper in all four games. He saw action for each of the team's three field goal attempts as well as on punts and extra points. Deckers was also named Phil Steele Preseason All-Independent First Team in June 2021.
Founded in 2019, the Mannelly Award benefits Bernie's Book Bank, a non-profit organization located in Lake Bluff, Illinois. With 31 long snappers part of Monday's initial Watch List, that group will be narrowed to 10 semi-finalists on November 15. Those names will be narrowed to three finalists selected on November 29, with the winner being announced on December 11.
Massachusetts began preseason training camp this past Friday, Aug. 6, and has less than one month before its Sept. 4 season opener at Pittsburgh. The Minutemen open the home schedule on Sept. 11 vs. Boston College.
Single game, season tickets and a variety of mini-plan and group ticket options are on sale now for the 2021 football season. For more details, click here or contact the UMass Athletics Ticket Office at (866) UMASS-TIX.
