Jones To Compete With Team USA At 2021 IIHF Men's World Championship

The 2021 Second Team All-American played 10 games with the New York Rangers to conclude their season.
 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former University of Massachusetts hockey defenseman Zac Jones has been named to the 2021 U.S. Men's National Team roster for the upcoming 2021 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship, which will be held May 21-June 6 in Riga, Latvia, it was announced on Thursday.

Team USA will depart the U.S. for Riga on May 16 and begins play in the world championship on May 22 against Finland at 9:15 a.m. ET. All U.S. games in the tournament will air live on NHL Network.

Jones, a 2021 Second Team All-American and 2019 New York Rangers' third round draft pick, made the jump from college hockey straight into the NHL last month and appeared in 10 games with New York to end the 2020-21 the season, registering four assists.

A 2020-21 Hockey East Second-Team All-Star, Jones finished tied for third for the Minutemen in points this season with 24 in 29 games on nine goals and 15 assists and was +3 with three power-play goals, one shorthanded tally and one game winner. He was second nationally in goals by defensemen, third in points, fifth in goals per-game (.31) and tied for seventh in points per-game (.83).

Over two seasons in a UMass uniform, the Glen Allen Virginia native amassed 47 points on 12 goals and 35 assists over 61 contests and ranks 10th all-time in program history at +29. He opened the scoring in the Minutemen's 3-2 win over Minnesota Duluth in the NCAA National Semifinal and was selected to the Frozen Four All-Tournament Team.

In Jones' previous Team USA appearances, he helped the United States win a gold medal at the 2018 World Junior A Challenge and represented the United States at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship.
