THE OPENING TIP: THE MASSACHUSETTS-ST. JOE'S PREVIEW
• Fresh off a three-game road trip, UMass women's basketball returns to the Mullins Center confines on Fri., Jan. 29 for a 1 p.m. game vs. Atlantic 10 foe Saint Joseph's. ESPN+ will carry the game live, with Adam Frenier '04 (PxP) and Justin Maccagnan (color) on the call.

• By winning percentage (.750), UMass enters the weekend at second place in the Atlantic 10 standings. Dayton (5-0) is atop the conference undefeated, although the Flyers are currently in a pause of team activities. Four teams share third place with identical 5-2 records (.714).

• The Minutewomen split a pair with Saint Louis last weekend in the shadows of the Gateway Arch. In a nationally-televised contest on Fri., Jan. 22 a balanced effort with four double-figure scorers was key in a 78-62 victory. SLU would bounce back in the finale, however, a 63-52 setback on Sun., Jan. 24.

•  In the SLU series opener, Sydney Taylor led Massachusetts with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Sam Breen had her seventh double-double in the last eight games, finishing with 13 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Destiney Philoxy followed up by 14 points, six assists and four boards, and Maddie Sims added a line of 12 points, three boards, two blocks and as many assists.

• UMass committed a season-low eight turnovers last Friday–the fewest since the 2020 Atlantic 10 First Round vs. St. Bonaventure (6).

• Destiney Philoxy continues to position herself as one of the nation's leading ball distributors. Philoxy (7.5 apg) sits third in Division I in assists per game and has contributed eight or more dimes in seven games this season.

• On Thursday, it was announced that incoming freshman guard Stefanie Kulesza has graduated high school early and enrolled at the University of Massachusetts. An ESPN Top 100 recruit in the Class of 2021, the 5-foot-11 native of Wilmington, Delaware signed her National Letter of Intent in November 2020.

• Through games of Wed., Jan. 27, Massachusetts is slotted No. 66 in the NCAA's NET rankings, highest in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
