UMass alumnus, nine-time all-American taken with the 62nd overall pick
NASHVILLE - The Arizona Cardinals selected University of Massachusetts football alumnus and nine-time all-America wide receiver Andy Isabella in the second round with the 62nd overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft Friday night.
Isabella finished his senior season in 2018 as the nation's leader for receiving yards per game (141.5) and total reception yards (1,698). In addition to his yardage totals, Isabella posted 102 catches, including 13 for touchdowns. The native of Mayfield, Ohio, capped his UMass career with 231 receptions, 3,526 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns.
Isabella is the 29th all-time selection in the AFL/NFL draft and 19th in the "Modern Era" of the National Football League since the merger of the AFL and NFL prior to the 1966 season.
Isabella also represents the fourth UMass wide receiver selected in the draft following Tajae Sharpe (2016), Tim Berra (1974) and Steve Parnell (1970). Isabella is also the fourth draft selection - and highest overall pick - during the program's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) era (2012-present).
UMass football begins its 2019 season at Rutgers on Fri., Aug. 30. The Minutemen host their first home game of the year the following weekend with a Sat., Sept. 7 contest against Southern Illinois at McGuirk Alumni Stadium. Kickoff for both contests will be announced at later dates.
