Holloway’s Senior Night Double-Double Leads Men’s Hoops Past Richmond

Rashaan Holloway finished with a career-high 28 points to go with 12 rebounds in his final home game.
AMHERST, Mass. – Rashaan Holloway poured in a career-high 28 points to go along with 12 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double as the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team defeated Richmond 87-79 on Senior Night in the Mullins Center. Jonathan Laurent added 20 points for the Minutemen (11-19 Overall, 4-13 Atlantic 10) on 6-of-8 from the field.
Holloway found his groove early and often down low, dropping in 16 points in the first half while helping UMass to a 7-2 early advantage after a spin move for the score before Richmond (12-18 Overall, 6-11 Atlantic 10) used an 8-0 scoring run to take a five-point lead.
Sy Chatman helped cap off an 8-0 scoring run to put UMass ahead 19-16 with a slam, one of his three dunks of the night as the freshman finished with eight points, four rebounds, a steal and a block.
The Minutemen dominated the boards to the tune of a 47-to-27 rebound advantage over the Spiders, holding a plus-16 margin at the half that included 12 offensive rebounds leading to 17 points as UMass took a 36-32 lead into the locker room at half.
Richmond was held to just 9-of-31 from behind the arc on the night, but used a pair of threes at the end of the first half and into the second as an 8-0 run put the Spiders ahead 40-38 in what was the visitor's final lead of the game.
Laurent dropped in 15 of his 20 points in the second half to help the Minutemen maintain their near double-digit lead for the majority of the second half, putting UMass ahead by nine with a pair of triples, a fast break layup and a pair of free throws.
Holloway eclipsed his previous career-high scoring mark of 23 set on Feb. 2 at Saint Joseph's with a layup that gave the Minutemen their largest lead of the night up until that point at 66-53 with 6:56 remaining off a Luwane Pipkins assist. Pipkins scored nine points and added six rebounds and a game-high eight assists for a UMass squad that assisted on 23-of-32 made field goals.
Unique McLean added six points and seven rebounds for the Minutemen while Keon Clergeot finished with eight points, including a one-handed slam with 1:57 remaining to put UMass ahead 79-65.
The Minutemen will wrap up the regular season on the road in Kingston, R.I. with a matchup against Rhode Island on Saturday at 4 p.m.
