Philoxy, Weeks share weekly Sports Luncheon honors

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's basketball sophomore guard Destiney Philoxy and men's basketball freshman guard T.J. Weeks have been named the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive College Credit Union.

Both Philoxy and Weeks will be recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wed., Dec. 4 at noon in Berkshire Dining Commons. As part of a packed program of events, hockey head coach Greg Carvel, women's basketball assistant coach Lynne-Ann Kokoski and women's track & field head coach Julie LaFreniere will attend as guest speakers.

Philoxy averaged a team-best 19.5 points per game as UMass split a road trip at St. John's (Nov. 25) and Vermont (Nov. 29). She put on a clinic shooting 9-of-11 at UVM, where her 25 points were one short of tying a career-high. She also had five assists to go with three steals and helped limit Massachusetts to just five turnovers at UVM, the fewest in a single game since Feb. 13, 2016.

Weeks had a game-high 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting (4-of-6 from three) and a season-high seven rebounds in his first collegiate start at Rutgers on Nov. 29. He is seventh in the NCAA and leads the Atlantic 10 Conference in three-point shooting percentage this season (54.2%).

With last week's luncheon falling over the Thanksgiving holiday, the Nov. 25 Student-Athlete of the Week honorees in Cal Kiefiuk (hockey), Al Madden (men's swimming & diving) and Paige McCormick (women's basketball) will also be recognized.

Free parking for the luncheon is available in Lot 33 on University Drive (click here for voucher). In addition, metered parking in the Southwest Horseshoe and along Fearing Street is available. Including tax, lunch costs $12.31 and $10.70 for UMass alumni.
