Men's Basketball Welcomes Zane Scott As Sports Performance Coach

December 29, 2019 | Men's Basketball

AMHERST, Mass. – UMass men's basketball head coach Matt McCall announced on Monday that Zane Scott has been named the program's sports performance coach. Scott arrives in Amherst following a stint at the University of Florida.

"I look at our sports performance coach as an assistant coach," McCall said. "One of the things that was very important to me and our staff was energy, passion and a want to be here at UMass. Right off the bat, Zane's energy struck me as a guy who is passionate for what he does and has a want for being in the Northeast.

"Zane has really grinded his way to get to the point to where he's now running his own strength and conditioning program," McCall said. "He trained and worked under arguably one of the best strength coaches in college basketball in Preston Greene. For Zane to train under him and bring some of the things that he's learned under Preston and put his own spin on them here, I couldn't be more excited."

While at Florida, Scott assisted with all aspects of training implementation with the men's basketball including strength training, conditioning, rehabilitation, supplementation, pre-practice warm-up and more. He also furthered his knowledge in strength training and program organization under Greene, one of the most respected strength and conditioning coaches in the nation.

"I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the staff at UMass working with a basketball team that is young, fiery, and destined for success," Scott said. "The instant connection with both the basketball staff and sports performance staff, and the direction the team is moving made it an easy decision to become a part of UMass Athletics."

Prior to Florida, Scott spent a season at Wingate University, where he was part of a staff that led nearly 400 student-athletes and more than 20 teams at the Division II level. There, Scott assisted in the implementation of strength and conditioning programs with all programs, including direct oversight of the cross country and mid-distance track student-athletes and the men's and women's golf teams.

Scott graduated from Ithaca College with a bachelor's degree in clinical exercise science, and went on to earn a Master's in sports administration from Canisius.
