Tre Mitchell Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

Mitchell had 23 points in Friday's win against Maine
AMHERST, Mass. – After a 23-point night against Maine last weekend, UMass men's basketball center Tre Mitchell has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Mitchell's selection marks the Minutemen's third Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor this season, joining T.J. Weeks and Sean East II, who earned the honor in the first two weeks of the season, respectively. It marks the first time since the 2003-04 season that three different Minutemen have been named the conference's rookie of the week.
Mitchell was 9-of-17 from the floor on Friday night, including 3-of-6 from three to finish three points shy of a career-high. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native also added seven rebounds , one assist, one block and one steal.
For the season, Mitchell is averaging 14.2 points (10th in the A10), 29.3 minutes and a team-best 6.3 rebounds per game (14th in the A10) through the team's first 12 games of the year.
UMass will return from the holiday break on Dec. 30 when the Minutemen travel to Akron in the final nonconference matchup of the season before kicking off Atlantic 10 play on Jan. 5 at Saint Louis.
