January 02, 2019 | Football
All-American wide receiver one of only 23 chosen
HOUSTON - University of Massachusetts senior wide receiver Andy Isabella was one of only 23 student-athletes across FBS selected as a Lombardi Award Semfinalist, as announced by the Lombardi Foundation. Isabella was also only one of two wide receivers chosen, alongside Alabama's Jerry Jeudy.
The Lombardi Award is presented to one NCAA FBS football player, regardless of position, each year based on the individual's character, leadership, performance and resiliency. The Lombardi Foundation will announce the finalists following the National Championship Game on Monday, Jan. 7.
Isabella, a nine-time all-America selection following his senior season in 2018, ranks as the nation's FBS leader in receiving yards (1,698) and receiving yards per game (141.5). It equates to 288 yards and 24.0 yards per game more than the next-closest competitor (Antoine Wesley • Texas Tech • 1,410 • 117.5). Isabella also stands among the top-five nationally in total catches, receptions per game and touchdown receptions.
