Isabella Goes Right To... Ludicrous Speed!
• Over his last 26 games played, Andy Isabella has 2,048 of his 2,055 career receiving yards and 141 of his 143 career receptions playing mainly as a starter at wide receiver. It equates to an average of 5.3 receptions per game and 78.1 yards per appearance.
• The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Isabella posted 75 or more receiving yards in 15 of those 26 games, with 100 or more in seven contests. He leads the team lead with 19 touchdown receptions in that span.
Young Gets Purposeful
• Running back Marquis Young eclipsed 1,000 all-purpose yards for the third consecutive season in 2018 with a career-best 1,503 via 982 rushing yards, 280 receiving yards and 241 kick return yards. It equated to a team-high 125.3 all-purpose yards per game in 2017.
• He owns 3,869 all-purpose yards for his career as he posted 1,031 as a freshman in 2015 (85.9 per game) and capped 2016 with 1,045, an average of 87.1 per game. Young opened 2018 with 290 all-purpose yards against Duquesne (90 rushing, 13 kick return, 12 receiving) and at Boston College (153 kick return, 13 receiving, nine rushing).
Ford Does Record Book Numbers
• Quarterback Andrew Ford stands amongst the career record-holders in eight categories: pass completion percentage (2nd; 62.0), passer efficiency rating (2nd; 144.2), passing yards per game (2nd; 245.0), passing touchdowns (3rd; 50), pass completions (4th; 470), average yards per pass (4th; 7.8), passing yards (4th; 5,853) and passing attempts (5th; 758).
• Ford ranks in the top-five in all categories despite not standing among the top 10 in interceptions thrown as his 20 tossed over his two completed seasons is still three away from being tied with four Minutemen for ninth.
Firing On All Cylinders
• The Massachusetts offense produced 572 total yards during the 63-15 victory over Duquesne, the most in a season-opener during the team's FBA era (2012-present). The Maroon and White balanced their offense between 290 yards gained through the air and 282 on the ground.
A Great Debut... Or The Best Debut??
• In his first game as a Minuteman, graduate student safety Brice McAllister posted three tackles, including a TFL, two interceptions, including 60-yard return for a touchdown, and a forced fumble.
• McAllister is the first FBS-era player with multiple interceptions or a pick-six in his debut with the program.
• He is the first UMass player with a pick-six in his debut since at least the 1997 season, as far back as the current records cover.
• The last Minuteman with an interception in his debut was Shannon James, who opened his career with a pick against Central Connecticut on Sept. 7, 2002 in a 52-3 win at McGuirk Alumni Stadium. He followed with another interception the following weekend against AIC (Sept. 10, 2002).
Waste No Time Forcing Turnovers
• Massachusetts forced four Duquesne turnovers in the 63-15 season-opening victory, including three created before or during Duquesne's opening downs series of the individual drive.
• Bakhari Goodson swiped away a bobbled ball on Duquesne's third play of its opening drive. Massachusetts immediately scored on a 32-yard Andrew Ford completion to Brennon Dingle eight seconds later.
• In the second quarter, Brice McAllister picked off Daniel Parr on the first play of the team's third drive of the quarter. The Minutemen then made use of a methodical 12-play, 62-yard touchdown drive and bumped the advantage to 35-3 with 3:12 remaining in the half.
• McCallister later returned a pickoff for six points on Duquesne's fifth play of their first drive of the third quarter. It bumped the lead to 49-9.
• Joseph Norwood's fumble recovery capped the day when Duquesne muffed a punt in the fourth quarter. It led to the final UMass touchdown of the evening.
