FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. - University of Massachusetts football redshirt senior quarterback Andrew Ford and senior wide receiver Andy Isabella were among the 106 FBS student-athletes selected for the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, as announced by the award's organizing body on Thursday.
Ford is currently enrolled as a graduate student in the Isenberg School of Management after he completed his undergraduate coursework and received a bachelor's degree in May, 2018. The Wuerffel Trophy is Ford's second major award watch list recognition of 2018 as he is also one of only 26 on the Davey O'Brien Award Watch List (top quarterback).
The Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, native enters his third season with the program following two seasons as the team's starting quarterback. With one year of eligibility remaining, Ford already ranks among the top-5 in program history for completion percentage (2nd; 62.0), passer efficiency rating (2nd; 144.4), passing yards per game (2nd; 254.0), touchdown passes (3rd; 48), pass completions (4th; 445), passing yards (4th; 5,589), pass attempts (5th; 718).
Isabella is studying toward a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics. The Wuerffel Trophy marks Isabella's third major award watch list for the 5-foot-9 route-runner as he also appears on the Biletnikoff Award (top receiver) and Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player) watch lists.
The Mayfield, Ohio, native ranked among the top wide receivers in the nation for touchdown catches (t-16th), receiving yards per game (27th) and receptions per game (44th). Isabella was also one of only 10 players across FBS with three or more touchdowns of 65 or more yards (t-7th; 3): Georgia Southern (68 yards), Mississippi State (69) and Maine (69).
Nominations for the Wuerffel Trophy are made by the respective universities' communications directors and will close on Oct. 12. A current list of nominees can be found at www.wuerffeltrophy.org beginning on Aug. 1. Semifinalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 1 and finalists will be announced on Nov. 19.
