Apple and Android-compatible app to serve as student-specific loyalty and engagement platform

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Athletics announced the debut of the Militia Student Rewards App, available for download on all Apple and Android devices currently. The app serves as a loyalty and engagement platform for students, and rewards point valuations for attending varsity athletics events throughout the 2018-19 athletic calendar.

Students can download the app by searching "Militia Student Rewards" and logging in with their UMass email address. By completing their account profile, students will be provided push notifications alerting them about upcoming home games, new prizes and additional opportunities to earn points.

All UMass Athletics home events are free of charge for undergraduate students with the use of their UMass Student ID Card.

Users redeem points for prizes, which will include but will not be limited to an iPhone X, opportunities to travel with UMass Athletics teams, lunch with Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford and Boston Bruins tickets.

"Student attendance is the key performance indicator of a strong student following for any NCAA Division I athletics program," Associate Athletics Director for Sales and Fan Experience Alan Pandiani said. "In partnering with The Militia and SuperFanU, we are confident in the quality of the platform we will roll out this fall, and are certain that it will enhance our number of student stakeholders on campus, and give UMass undergraduate students a key piece of equity in the future success of our athletics programs."

Students will earn Militia Rewards App points for attendance of an event when they are in the designated GPS space during the allotted time frame. For all events, students will be able to earn points for checking in at varying times throughout the game, encouraging them to stay throughout the duration.

"The Militia has worked diligently with UMass Athletics to enrich the overall student experience," said Militia president Jake Barnes. "The ultimate goal is to increase student attendance, which in turn will enhance the gameday experience for all fans. This app will assist our efforts in creating a more engaged and consistent following from the student body."

All students will be required to show their downloaded app and completed account in order to receive fan giveaways during the 2018-19 academic year.

Point valuations will be allotted to all home sporting events throughout 2018-2019. The first opportunity students have to earn points is Sun., Aug. 12, when the UMass women's soccer team hosts Holy Cross for an exhibition match at Rudd Field beginning at 4 p.m.
