High scoring guard joins Jalen Thomas and Preston Santos who signed last week.

AMHERST, Mass. – High scoring guard John Buggs III has officially signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team becoming the third newcomer to join Matt McCall's squad starting with the 2018-19 season.

Buggs made the official announcement on Tuesday night from his hometown of Homer, La. After having a sensational prep career at Summerfield High School, the 6-foot-2 guard is currently attending Putnam Science Academy (Conn.) for a postgrad year.

As a senior with Summerfield, Buggs averaged 23.2 points last season guiding the Rebels to the Class C state title while earning a spot on the All-Louisiana First Team.

The 2018 title was one of three state championships that he was a part of with Summerfield.

Buggs joins Jalen Thomas (Detroit, Mich.) and Preston Santos (Warwick, R.I.) who signed early NLIs on Nov. 15.
