The Little Engine That Could
• Andy Isabella ranks among the nation's per-game leaders in reception and receiving yards, as well as touchdowns catches. Isabella is second in receiving yards (119.9), tied for second in touchdowns (8) and fifth for receptions (7.7).
• Isabella is one of only two players in the nation who ranks as highlight in all three categories, alongside John Ursua (Hawai'i). Ursua is listed at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds while Isabella 5-foot-10, 190 pounds.
The Curious Case of Bryton Barr
• Graduate student middle linebacker Bryton Barr is second among all NCAA FBS players in tackles per game (13.1) and total tackles (92) through seven games. Barr had at least 10 tackles in each of the last six games, including at Boston College (17), at Georgia Southern (10), at FIU (15), Charlotte (21), at Ohio (11) and USF (10).
• During his season-and-a-half with UMass, Barr averages 10.4 tackles per game, with 197 over his 19 appearances. He made at least 10 tackles in 11 of those outings.
• Barr is in his seventh season of collegiate football and second with the Minutemen. He was a member of the Towson football program from 2012-16 before he transferred to Massachusetts ahead of the 2017 campaign. Barr went 1,091 consecutive days between games played due to back-to-back-to-back injuries at Towson spanning from Sept. 8, 2013 through Sept. 3, 2016.
Giving Them The Bycz-ness
• Sophomore Jake Byczko leads all defensive lineman on the team with 29 tackles (eight solo, 21 assisted), including 4.0 TFLs and 3.0 sacks, two fumbles forced and one fumble recovery.
• Byczko completed his rookie campaign with 23 tackles, the most by a rookie on the team. He had three pass breakups and 2.0 TFLs.
• As a freshman one season ago, Byczko posted a career-high 10 tackles during extended time on the defensive line against Old Dominion. He was active throughout the game, with two tackles each in the first, second and third quarters before he had four in the fourth. The Massachusetts native entered the game with two total tackles in his prior two appearances.
Kick (Return) It Into High Gear
• Senior running back and return specialist Marquis Young brought back the opening kickoff vs. Charlotte for a 93-yard TD.
• It was the team's first kickoff returned for a touchdown since James Allen did so from 97 yards away at Bowling Green on Oct. 10, 2015. It was also the first game-opening kickoff returned for points since Khary Bailey-Smith started the game with a kick return touchdown against Western Michigan on Oct. 26, 2013.
Degrees In-Hand
• Five Minutemen enter the 2018 season with their undergraduate degree requirements completed, including Bryton Barr, Ross Comis, Dan DiNicola, Andrew Ford and Brice McAllister. Barr (Towson) and McAllister (Connecticut) earned theirs prior to transferring in as graduate students.
