Massachusetts Lands 156 Student-Athletes on A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its 2017 Spring Commissioner's Honor Roll on Tuesday, with 156 University of Massachusetts student-athletes recognized for their academic success. The 156 Minutemen and Minutewomen mark the third-most among all Atlantic 10 schools, trailing only George Mason (159) and Fordham (157).

For the fourth straight semester, the Atlantic 10 set league records for total honorees (1,818), as well as the average per school at 129.8 student-athletes.

Including the fall semester numbers, there were a total of 3,581 honorees during 2016-17, the most in league history. Previously the single year record was 3,377, set in 2015-16. Both marks are the best single-semester numbers of Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade's tenure. For the year, UMass ranked second among total honorees with 321, while Fordham led the league with 323.

To be listed on the bi-annual Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete in an Atlantic 10-sponsored sport must have a 3.5 GPA or better (on a 4.0 scale) during the specified semester. Freshmen are eligible to receive the award.
