Laurent Selected for Ray Guy Award Watch List

AUGUSTA, Ga. - University of Massachusetts redshirt senior punter Logan Laurent earned a spot among the Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List candidates, as announced by the Augusta Sports Council on Wednesday. The Ray Guy Award is given annually to the nation's top collegiate punter. 2017 marks Laurent's second consecutive season in consideration for the honor, as he was previously listed among candidates for the 2016 award. He is one of only 29 punters nationally chosen for the 2017 preseason watch list.

Laurent appeared in all 12 games during his redshirt junior campaign and was the team's primary punter while he also handled a majority of the field goal duties. Laurent booted 62 punts for a total of 2,582 yards while he averaged of 41.6 yards per punt. Thirteen of his punters traveled 50 or more yards and 18 were downed inside the opposition's 20 yard line.

An updated list of candidates will be released on Oct. 31. The Ray Guy Award committee will announce the ten semifinalists on Nov. 16. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will then vote for the top three finalists to be announced on Nov. 21. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation's top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN on Thurs., Dec. 7.

Season tickets for the 2017 home schedule are on sale now through the UMass Athletics Ticket Office over the phone at 866-UMASS-TIX, in-person at the Mullins Center Box Office (9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) and online via UMass Ticket Central. Single game tickets for the Fenway Gridiron Series featuring UMass vs. Maine at Fenway Park on Sat., Nov. 11 are on sale now.
