AMHERST, Mass. Sophomore guard Luwane Pipkins was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 34 points as the University of Massachusetts men's basketball team defeated Niagara 101-76 on Sunday afternoon at the Mullins Center.

Pipkins (Chicago, Ill.) hit 12-of-18 shots from the field against the Purple Eagles, including a blistering 7-of-10 from beyond the arc on his way to setting a new career-high. His seven 3-pointers were one shy of his previous career-high of eight, which is tied for the school record. The offensive explosion marked his first career 30-point game, and his fourth 20-point plus game in two years. Additionally, the Chicago native had five assists to just one turnover in 24 minutes of action. Sunday's performance also marked the 20th career game that Pipkins has reached double-digit scoring.

Through three games on the year, Pipkins is averaging a team-leading 22.7 points per game on 46-percent shooting from the field and 52-percent shooting from deep. The sophomore adds 5.3 rebounds per game along with four assists and 2.33 steals.

The Minutemen (2-1 Overall) are back in action at the Mullins Center tomorrow as they are set to take on Western Carolina at 7 p.m. before heading to Brooklyn, N.Y., where they will face Minnesota and BYU as part of the Barclays Center Classic over the weekend.
