MASSACHUSETTS HIGHLIGHTS
- Adam Breneman caught a 58-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. It was Breneman's first touchdown pass as a Minuteman and Ross Comis' longest completion of his career.
- Shane Huber recorded his first collegiate interceptions with a second quarter pickoff of BC's Patrick Towles. Huber nabbed Towles pass out of the air at the Boston College 47 yard line and returned it 27 yards.
- Khary Bailey-Smith led the defense with seven tackles, including a TFL. He was one of 11 Minutemen who recorded four or more tackles against Boston College.
- Logan Laurent set the University of Massachusetts football record with 547 punt yards. It eclipsed the previous record of 526 set by Christian Koegel against Boston College on Oct. 2, 2004. Laurent dropped four of his punts inside the Boston College 20 yard line and sent as many attempts at least 50 yards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UMass tight end Adam Breneman found space in the middle and outran the Boston College secondary to the endzone for a 58-yard touchdown. It gave the Minutemen a 7-0 first quarter lead.
- Boston College quarterback Patrick Towles and wide receiver Jeff Smith connected for a pair of second quarter touchdown plays that put the Eagles in front, 13-7.
- The Eagles extended their lead to 19-7 at the end of the third quarter with a pair of Mike Knoll field goals in the stanza. Knoll converted on kicks of 40 and 37 yards with 3:50 and 1:04 left in the quarter, respectively.
- The Boston College defense eliminated the chance at a UMass comeback with stiff resistance at the line of scrimmage as the Eagles sacked UMass quarterback Ross Comis eight times for 59 yards lost.
- Jon Hilliman scored on a 15-yard run in the fourth to reach the final score.
