DURHAM, N.H. - University of Massachusetts men's track and field was victorious Saturday at the UNH Pre Conference Meet as the Minutemen placed first in a field of seven with 144 points. Behind UMass, New Hampshire captured second with 99 points and Central Connecticut placed third with 95 points.

The Minutemen posted wins in four events with Morgan Marlow, John Chuma, Deion Arneaud and Benjamin Murphyall claiming first-place showings on the day.

In pole vault, Chuma took the top spot with a 15-foot, 11.25-inch leap, which improved upon his UMass record and was an IC4A Championship qualifier. Brendan Lloyd landed fourth, clearing 14 feet, 5.50 inches and Kris Horn captured fifth with a jump also measuring 14 feet, 5.50 inches.

The 1,500 meter run saw Marlow take first with a time of 3 minutes, 56.92 seconds, which was just shy of qualifying for the IC4A Championship. Freshman Zachary Frahlich took second with a time of 3:58.11.

Murphy earned first in high jump with a height of 6 feet, 4.75 inches and Cole Acoveno followed in second, also clearing 6 feet, 4.75 inches.

Long jump saw Arneaud capture first with a 22-foot, 3-inch leap. Freshman Jude Pierre earned third with a 21-foot, 3.50-inch jump.

Sophomore John Burns claimed second in 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 40.77 seconds. Freshman Eric Waterman finished third at 9:46.38.

Zack Grube crossed the finish line in 56.37 seconds in 400 meter hurdles to take second.

Cory Adelson was the runner-up in 200 meter dash with a time of 22.87 seconds.

UMass' 4x400 meter relay `A' team of Alexander Finestone, Michael McNaughton, Stephen Ness and Adelson ran 3 minutes, 23.63 seconds to take third.

Jake DeGrace earned second in 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.69 seconds.

Freshman Andy Isabella captured second in 100 meter dash with a time of 11.34 seconds.

Warren Charleston placed second in triple jump at 43 feet, 2.50 inches, while Pierre was third at 42 feet, 4 inches.

Discus saw Evan Burton take third with a 142-foot, 9-inch toss. Brett Daviesscored, as well, with a 134 foot, 2 inch throw that was good for fifth. Lloyd threw 151 feet, 4 inches to earn fifth place in javelin.

The Minutemen are back in action Sat., May 7 for day one of the Atlantic 10 Championships. Competition kicks off 9:00 a.m. in Fairfax, Va.
