NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Massachusetts men's basketball redshirt senior Jabarie Hinds and senior Trey Davis each took home an award Tuesday in recognition of their successes this season as Hinds picked up Atlantic 10 Co-Sixth Man of the Year and Davis totaled U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District I Team.

Hinds split his award with St. Bonaventure's Denzel Gregg. Through 30 games played, Hinds averages 14.2 points and 3.1 assists per game running the offense at point guard. He sports a +1.82 assist-to-turnover ratio, the best of his career spanning two seasons competing at West Virginia (2011-13) and UMass (2014-present). Since moving to the bench after previously starting at point guard, Hinds adjusted his game and bounced back from a midseason slump to average 15.2 points per game shooting 49.2 percent from the floor (61-of-124) and 84.4 percent at the foul line (84.4 percent) in 11 appearances as a reserve.

Davis leads the Minutemen and is fourth in the conference with 18.6 points per game. A threat to score inside, outside and at the foul line, Davis paces Massachusetts with 79 made 3-pointers and 173 total field goals converted to go 134 free throws in 155 attempted (86.5 percent). He sports 14 games with 20 or more points scored this season, with nine of those coming during the Atlantic 10 slate. Davis was pivotal in the team's 13 wins through the end of the regular season as he bumped his scoring number to 21.8 points per game and rebounding mark to 4.6 on average during those victories.

The United States Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. It has been selecting a Player of the Year (Oscar Robertson Trophy) and an All-America team in college basketball since the organization's inception in 1956.

Davis and Hinds continue their respective seasons in the Atlantic 10 Championship Second Round where the No. 10 seed Minutemen take on No. 7 Rhode Island. The game will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m.
