AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts men's basketball senior guard Trey Davis picked up UMass Athlete of the Week in recognition of his 40-point game against New Orleans on Dec. 16. Davis is also the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week.

Davis scored the second-most points in program history and his one-game total was only one point shy of tying Billy Tindall for the most all-time (41 vs. Vermont; Feb. 10, 1968). His 40 points reset the Mullins Center record for points scored by one player in a game, a mark previously held by Marcus Camby (38 vs. Dayton; Jan. 6, 1996), who was in the building for the game as part of the celebration of and banner-raising for former head coach John Calipari.

Davis scored 17 points in each half of regulation before he added six points during the crucial overtime period, all of which came at the foul line. He shot 10-of-18 from the floor with a Mullins Center record 18 made free throws in 20 attempted. His 18 makes also rank second all-time in program history for one game while his 20 foul shots attempted tied him for fourth in the category.

Davis will be recognized with a Wed., Dec. 23 UMass Sports Luncheon. The luncheon runs from Noon through 1:15 p.m., and features a salad-to-dessert buffet for $14. Parking is available in the lot directly West of the Mullins Center, accessible via Mullins Way.
