Lawrence Named UMass/Dinn Brothers Student-Athlete of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. - After averaging 15 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of games last week, women's basketball redshirt-sophomore Alyssa Lawrence (Westchester, N.Y.) has been named the UMass/Dinn Brothers Student-Athlete of the Week. Lawrence will be honored on Tuesday afternoon at the UMass Weekly Sports Luncheon from Noon to 1:15 in the Massachusetts Room of the Mullins Center.

The small forward had 14 points and nine rebounds in a tightly-fought win over Hofstra which visited the Mullins Center with a 7-1 overall record prior to the Minutewomen's win. Lawrence added 16 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double in last Saturday's overtime loss at Central Connecticut State.

Against the Blue Devils, Lawrence scored eight points in the fourth quarter at CCSU sparking a 21-to-5 run for UMass that forced overtime.

For the week, shot 11-of-23 including 8-of-8 from the free throw line while adding five blocks and two steals.

Along with Lawrence, this week's featured speakers with be longtime UMass hockey color commentator Brock Hines along with Athletic Department administrators Ryan Boudway, Assistant Athletic Director for the Annual Fund, and Assistant Directors of Development Dr. L.A. Love and Danielle Grobmyer.

This will mark the final Weekly Sports Luncheon of the semester. They will resume for the Spring semester beginning Wednesday, January 6 in the Massachusetts Room. The Weekly Sports Luncheons include a salad-to-dessert buffet for just $14. Parking is free in the lot directly behind the Mullins Center.
