Box Score

BOSTON - Kim Pierre-Louis scored a career-high 33 points and Kymber Hill added a personal-best-tying 14 more as UMass women's basketball raced by Boston University, 78-57 at Case Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.

Pierre-Louis' performance on offense ranks tied for fifth in most points scored in one game at UMass and it marks the most tallied since Melissa Gurile had 38 against Providence on Dec. 11, 1993. Pierre-Louis also put in the fifth-most free throws in one game (13) and had a double-double as she also led both sides with 14 rebounds, a season high. Rashida Timbilla provided 12 rebounds, five assists, four points and two steals while Hill added six rebounds and finished 4-for-4 on field goals and 2-of-2 at the foul line.

Emily Mital chipped in eight points, five assists and two rebounds while Amber Dillon tallied six points and four helpers.

Courtney Latham and Molly McKendrick each had 14 points for Boston University (3-8 overall) to tie for the team lead in the category.

Massachusetts (6-6) used its shooting performance to turn an early 11-6 hole into a 17-point lead with three minutes, 26 seconds to play in the first half, supported by Pierre-Louis' 15 points in only 10 minutes on the floor during the frame. The Ottawa, Ontario, native was 5-for-6 from the floor and 5-of-6 on free throws while the Minutewomen shot 58.6 percent on field goals as a team in the frame.

The Minutewomen used five consecutive made field goals to turn the five-point deficit around, beginning with a Pierre-Louis bucket at the 15:31 mark. Hill added a make of her own on then next trip down the floor before Mital found Pierre-Louis at the basket for a 12-11 lead with 13:49 to play - the first lead of the day for UMass. Dillon added her first fastbreak layup of the afternoon while Hill chipped in two more points at the rim to the scoring run, which pushed the advantage to 16-11.

The Maroon and White continued to score around the basket and earned a 24-4 lead in points in the paint over the first half. Up 29-23, UMass added a 13-4 run to balloon the advantage to 42-27. Mital was crucial to the streak with a layup and three-pointer while Hill added two conversions from the field and Ciara Rosten closed the streak with layup of her own.

However, UMass did not score after Dillon's layup with 3:26 left in the first. The Terriers used the drought to put up the final five points of the frame and closed within 44-27 at the break.

Massachusetts responded with an 8-2 surge during the start of the second half and Boston University was unable to close the gap below 16 points during the rest of the game.

Massachusetts begins its Atlantic 10 Conference slate with a trip to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Jan. 2. The Minutewomen and Bonnies tip off at the Reilly Center at 2 p.m.
