LSU Too Much For UMass In 82-60 Setback

BATON ROUGE, La. - Massachusetts was unable to overcome its lowest shooting night of the season and 18 turnovers, falling to LSU 82-60 at the Maravich Center on Tuesday night.
UMass (5-3) lost its second-consecutive game and shot just 38 percent from the floor.
Cady Lalanne led four players in double figures as he registered his sixth double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Maxie Esho finished with 14 points and seven boards.
LSU (5-2) got 25 points from Josh Gray who had three of the team's five 3-pointers. The Tigers outscored the Minutemen 52-36 in the paint and held a 41-32 edge on the glass.
LSU scored the first eight points in the game and never trailed in the period. UMass drew to within two a few times before tying it at 24 on a Derrick Gordon floater in the lane with 8:23 in the half.
But the Tigers responded with a 17-2 run over the next 4:40 for a 41-26 lead. LSU took a 44-32 lead into the locker room.
LSU scored 15 points off 11 UMass turnovers - a first-half high for UM this season.
The Tigers used a 6-0 run to stretch their lead to 57-42 eight minutes into the second period.
UMass found some success with the inside game, getting consecutive 3-point plays from Lalanne to get to within 65-55 with 6:54 left.
But again the Tigers had an answer, this time with a 9-1 run sparked by six from Gray to put the game out of reach.
UMass, which has played eight games in the past 19 days, will have four days off before playing host to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. The game will be the Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. and tip off at 2:00 p.m. Eastern time.
