Dillard Takes In Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference selected UMass women's basketball freshman guard Cierra Dillard as the league's rookie of the week, as announced on Monday afternoon. Dillard secured career-highs in points (21) and rebounds (6) while she also dished out four assists during UMass' 72-61 victory over Holy Cross on Sunday.
Dillard shot 7-for-11 from the floor, including a 6-of-8 line in the second half when she scored 17 points to spearhead the offense. She is the second-leading scorer among all Minutewomen through nine contests with 9.3 points per game.
The award marks Dillard's first of her collegiate career. The last Minutewoman named rookie of the week was Jasmine Watson on March 1, 2010. Dayton's Andrea Hoover was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. She had 26 points during a win over Toledo and 25 more with nine rebounds when the Flyers defeated Central Michigan.
