AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey program returned to campus this week to begin preparations for the 2013 campaign with preseason training. The Minutewomen, led by head coach Carla Tagliente, are looking to defend their 2012 Atlantic 10 Tournament Title during the approaching season.

UMass returns 14 players from the squad that finished 15-9 overall and 6-1 in the Atlantic 10 last season, including A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Lauren Allymohamed and starting goalkeeper Sam Carlino, who earned second team all-conference as a freshman. Ten newcomers join the Minutewomen, including nine freshmen and sophomore transfer Tory Berry.

UMass opens the campaign at the University of Maine with an Aug. 30 contest before facing Michigan in Orono, Maine, on Aug. 31. The Minutewomen kick off the home portion of the regular season with a game against UMass-Lowell on Tuesday, Sept. 2, beginning at 5 p.m.
