LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The University of Massachusetts field hockey team recorded a 4-2 victory at Lock Haven University on Friday afternoon to clinch the top seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Tournament. Molly MacDonnell, Hannah Prince, Brooke Sabia and Alexa Sikalis each recorded one goal during competition against the Lady Eagles.

Sikalis added one assist for a three-point afternoon while Izzie Delario and Charlotte Verelst notched one helper each. Sophomore Sam Carlino provided six save in the cage to earn the victory.

"I am happy with the first half and how we started the game," head coach Carla Tagliente said. "We had great build up in our attack that resulted in a number of goal-scoring opportunities and two really nice goals. We did well to control Lock Haven with our back-to-front play. Our defense was solid and came up with a number of outstanding tackles."

Sabia produced her 18th goal of the season from just inside the circle to open scoring. The Lafayette Hill, Pa., native fired in a hard shot toward the near post to put the Minutewomen ahead, 1-0 nine minutes, 52 seconds into the game.

Sikalis doubled the lead less than two minutes later. The senior midfielder corralled a pass from Verelst and sent an attempt by Lock Haven goalkeeper Elaina White at the 11:26 mark.

Prince pushed the lead to 3-0 coming out of the halftime break. Using a penalty corner try, Prince shot low just inside the far post following an insert from Delario and stop by Sikalis.

The Lady Eagles (13-6 overall, 3-3 Atlantic 10) cut the UMass lead to one goal with consecutive goals from Lydia George at 39:50 and 43:04. George deflected in a shot by Taylor Kennedy for the first tally. To secure the two-goal performance, George tracked down a rebounded shot following one of Carlino's six saves and lifted it over the UMass goalkeeper.

However, with time winding down in play and Lock Haven fighting for the equalizer, MacDonnell added an insurance tally to seal the contest. With 1:16 left, MacDonnell knocked in a loose ball in front of the cage for the senior's eighth goal of the season.

The Minutewomen (15-4, 6-0) led in shots, 15-12 and penalty corners, 11-5. Sikalis added a defensive save as each side recorded seven stops on the day.

Massachusetts will close its regular season at Saint Francis University (7-7, 3-3) in Loretto, Pa., with a Sunday, Nov. 3 contest at Noon.
