Minutewomen Duo Receive Weekly Atlantic 10 Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Massachusetts field hockey sophomore Brooke Sabia earned Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week and freshman Charlotte Verelst tallied A-10 Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference office. Sabia recorded 11 points on five goals and an assist as the Minutewomen claimed victories over La Salle, 7-1 and Saint Joseph's, 9-1 to improve to 3-0 in conference play. Verelst provided three goals for six points over the weekend to take in the rookie honor.

Sabia owns 33 points through 14 appearances this season courtesy of 16 goals and one assist while Verelst has 15 points through four tallies and seven helpers. Verelst's scoring output ties her for second in the Atlantic 10 for points among all freshmen.

Sabia shares the weekly laurel with Lock Haven's Nakira Downes. The Minutewomen continue A-10 season with a pair of games at Garber Field against Richmond on Friday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. and versus VCU at Noon on Sunday, Oct. 27. Admission to all home contests is free of charge.
