UMass Women Roll To 77-53 Win Vs. Saint Louis

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's basketball team went on a 15-0 run midway through the first half and never looked back, rolling to a 77-53 win over Saint Louis on Wednesday night at the Mullins Center. With the victory, the Minutewomen improve to 6-13 on the season, 2-2 in the Atlantic 10, while the Billikens drop to 6-13 overall, 0-4 in conference action.
With her fourth double-double in the past five games, senior Cerie Mosgrove led UMass with 18 points, matched her career high with 11 rebounds and also grabbed three steals. Sophomore Jasmine Watson followed with 17 points, while senior Megan Zullo added 14, aided by perfect 4-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc and dished four assists. Sophomore Shakia Robinson was the fourth Minutewomen in double figures with 11 points and junior Emilie Teuscher contributed a career-high seven assists and corralled five rebounds.
After three ties and four lead changes in the opening 11:30 of the contest, the Minutewomen used a 15-0 run to build a 32-17 advantage with 3:41 left in the period. Baskets by Lauren Woods and Jacy Bradley brought Saint Louis back to within 10 at 32-22, but UMass outscored the Billikens, 8-3 in the final 1:46 of the frame to hold a 40-25 edge at halftime. The Minutewomen shot a blistering 58.6% (17-for-29) in the first half, including 5-for-9 from three-point range.
Following the break, UMass never relinquished its comfortable lead, maintaining a cushion of 18 or more in the remainder of the contest. The Minutewomen finished shooting a season-high 55.6% (30-for-54) from the field and made 8-of-16 (50%) from three-point range and 9-of-12 (75%) at the free throw line. Saint Louis was limited to 20-for-67 (29.9%%) shooting, including 6-for-23 (26.1%) from beyond the arc and converted just 7-of-18 (38.9%) at the charity stripe.
Bradley provided the bulk of the Billikens' offense, totaling 17 points and shooting 5-for-12 from three-point range. Mallory Eggert joined her in double figures with 10 points and had six rebounds. Woods registered eight points, Lorreal Jones had a team-leading eight boards and Ayriell Robinson handed out six assists.
UMass will be back in action this Saturday, Jan. 22, as the squad will travel to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph's at 2 p.m.
