UMass Skiing Prepares For Boston College Carnival This Weekend

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass Skiing will travel to Jackson, N.H. this weekend to compete in the Boston College Carnival at Wildcat Mountain. The Minutewomen will participate in the Giant Slalom on Friday before the Slalom event on Saturday. Last season, the Men finished fourth at the Carnival while the Women finished fifth.
Both squads will be looking to climb in the conference standings this weekend with the ECSC Regionals in two weeks. The Minutemen currently sit in third place in the MacConnell Conference standings while the Minutewomen are in fifth place.
Last weekend, the Men's team finished fourth in the Giant Slalom before placing third in the Slalom. Matthew Small (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) had a big weekend for the Minutemen, finishing eighth in the Giant Slalom (1:46.49) before skiing to a third place finish in Sunday's Slalom (1:43.88). Alex Zahoruiko (North Andover, Mass.) also had a successful Giant Slalom, finishing in third place (1:44.57), just .34 seconds behind the first place finisher.
The Minutewomen finished fourth in both the Giant Slalom and Slalom last weekend, led by Jamie Taloumis (Chicopee, Mass.), who finished fourth in the Giant Slalom with a time of 1:49.33. Emily Shilletto (Toronto, Ont.) also had a big weekend for the Women's squad, finishing tenth in Saturday's Giant Slalom (1:50.94) before a ninth place finish in the Slalom (1:48.69).
