UMass Skiing Prepares For ECSC Regionals At Waterville Valley

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass Skiing will travel to Waterville Valley, N.H. this weekend to compete in the ECSC Regionals. The Minutemen are coming off a successful weekend at the Boston College Carnival, where they locked a spot for the USCSA Regionals. The men's team finished second in the Giant Slalom before a sixth place Slalom finish while the women placed fourth in Friday's Giant Slalom before finishing fifth in the Slalom. The Men's team finished the regular season in third place in the MacConnell standings, while the Minutewomen finished fifth.

Andrew Hawes (Concord, Mass.) had a big weekend for the Minutemen, finishing fourth in both the Giant Slalom (1:57.18) and the Slalom (1:24.38). Matthew Small (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) and Travis Hopkins (North Andover, Mass.) both had successful Giant Slalom runs, placing sixth and eighth, respectively. Adam Pogorzelski (Freehold, N.J.) skied to an 11th place finish (1:59.08) while Alex Zahoruiko (North Andover, Mass.) placed 12th (1:59.11). Pogorzelski also finished 13th in Saturday's Slalom with a time of 1:29.32. Pogorzelski and Hawes were the only Minutemen to finish in the top-15 in the Slalom.

The Minutewomen were led by Emily Shilletto (Toronto, Ont.) and Jamie Taloumis (Chicopee, Mass.) in the Giant Slalom, who finished fifth (2:02.38) and sixth (2:02.48), respectively. Abby Nolan (Duxbury, Mass.) skied to a 15th place finish on Friday with a time of 2:04.93. Heidi Skinner (Westeron, Vt.) placed 24th in the Giant Slalom (2:06.24) while Lauren Levey (Mequon, Wis.) finished 29th (2:07.95). The Women did not have any skiers finish in the top-15 on Saturday, but Alison Hubbard (Colden, N.Y.) placed 17th with a time of 1:39.44 and Taloumis finished 18th with a time of 1:39.97.
