UMass takes the series lead, 2-1 with this victory. The Minutemen won in 1996 while Memphis captured last year's game, 80-58, in Tennessee.
UMass wore their retro throwback jerseys for the first time. They resemble the ones worn by the Minutemen from the mid 1960s to the mid 1970s. UMass will wear them again for the Leaman Legacy Game on Feb. 3 vs. Xavier and possibly other game.
Terrell Vinson scored in double-figures for the third game in a row with 21. He has six games this season with 10 or more.
Boston native Anthony Gurley was in double-figures for the 10th time in 11 games this season with 14.

UMass outrebounded Memphis, 44-24 including 23-12 in the first half.
