UMass lost its season opener for the first time since 2002 agaonst Indiana. The Minutemen had won six straight openers dating to 2003.
UMass attempted a school-record 38 3-point field goals in the game. The old record was 35 set last season against Duquesne (2/25/09). UMass also took 34 against Duquesne in the A-10 Tournament last March.
Ricky Harris scored in double-figures for the 69th time in his career with 15 points.
Harris is up to 1362 points, still 15th all-time at UMass. He is just shy of Clarence Hill (1,369) and Julius Erving (1,370).
Harris has 212 career 3-pointers made, fifth all-time at UMass.
Anthony Gurley scored in double-figures for the 27th time in his career and 18th time at UMass with 14 points.
Freddie Riley scored 12 points, making four 3-pointers in his college debut.
UCF drew 8,727, the second-largest home crowd in school history.
UMass' bench outscored UCF, 38-24.
