AMHERST, Mass. - Four UMass football players have been named to the 2008 Sports Network All-America Team as announced on Tuesday. Senior punter Brett Arnold was named to the first team, junior safety Jeromy Miles was a second-team honoree while junior offensive lineman Vladimir Ducasse and senior defensive back/kick returner Courtney Robinson earned honorable mention.
All four were named First-Team All-CAA performers in November.
This marks the second First-Team All-American honor for Arnold, who finished the season with a 45.2 punt average, second highest in all of FCS. He was named an Associated Press FCS First-Team Punter in December.
Miles led the Minutemen with 104 tackles to go with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. He sealed a win at Northeastern on Oct. 11 with a late fumble recovery, only one week after clinching the victory over Delaware with a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown. The safety was a preseason All-American by Draft Consensus and was also a Sporting News Honorable Mention All-American after his freshman year at Navy.
Ducasse, an offensive lineman, had a standout year in 2008, finishing as a First-Team All-CAA selection. He helped pave the way for Tony Nelson to rush for 1,325 rush yards, the seventh straight season a UMass tailback has eclipsed the 1,000 yard plateau.
Robinson earns TSN honorable mention for the second straight season. He has already racked up a number of other postseason awards, highlighted by being named to CSN's Fabulous 50 FCS All-American team. He finished the season with 35 tackles and a sack while returning 18 kicks for 404 yards, a 22.4 average.
