UMass Announces Celebration Dates for 100th Season of Basketball

AMHERST, Mass. - As part of the Centennial Season of UMass Basketball, six games have been selected to celebrate the different decades and an era of the program's history. Each of the game dates will feature events surrounding the honored group including welcoming back many of the heroes from the respective eras, as they will be honored at each game. The events kickoff with the Dec. 6, 2008 game against Boston College as UMass will honor the "Classic Era" from 1899-1959. The Jack Leaman Legacy Game vs. Vanderbilt on Jan. 3, 2009 will be held in conjunction with 1960s night.
The UMass-Temple game on Jan. 17, 2009 will be the backdrop for 1970s night. The 1980s decade will be recognized at the La Salle game on Jan. 24, 2009.
On Feb. 8, 2009, UMass will look back at the historic decade of the 1990s where the Minutemen reached the 1996 Final Four, as UMass takes on Saint Joseph's. The current decade of the 2000s will be celebrated on Feb. 18, 2009 as UMass takes on Rhode Island.
Again, many of the greats from each era are expected to be on hand for these celebration games. Each night will also feature themes surrounding the celebrated era.

Jan. 3, 2009 UMass vs. Vanderbilt 5:00 p.m. Leaman Legacy Game/1960s Night
Jan. 17, 2009 UMass vs. Temple 7:00 p.m. 1970s Night
Jan. 24, 2009 UMass vs. La Salle 4:00 p.m. 1980s Night
Feb. 8, 2009 UMass vs. Saint Joseph's 2:00 p.m. 1990s Night
Feb. 18, 2009 UMass vs. Rhode Island 7:00 p.m. 2000s Night
