Kate Mills Named A Third-Team All-Conference Selection

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- University of Massachusetts women's basketball junior forward Kate Mills (Elkton, Md.) has been named a third-team All-Conference selection in voting conducted by the league's coaches it was announced Tuesday afternoon. Mills, who needs just 11 more points for 1,000 in her career, has averaged 16.1 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.41 apg and 2.17 bpg so far this season.
Mills ranks eighth in the league in scoring (16.1 ppg), 14th in rebounding (6.7 rpg), fourth in field goal percentage (.539), fifth in free throw percentage (.821), second in blocks (2.17)tied for 14th in offensive rebounds (2.34) and 15th in defensive rebounds (4.34).
In conference only games, Mills is fourth in scoring (16.9 ppg), sixth in field goal percentage (.519), third in free throw percentage (.833) and second in blocks (2.64).
With 63 blocks this season, Mills has already set the UMass single-season record. She also set a UMass Mullins Center record with seven blocked shots against Saint Louis on Jan. 26, 2007, and just recorded her career-high for points with 28 at Dayton Feb. 22.
Mills has reached double-figures for scoring in all 29 of UMass' games this season and has tallied six 20-point games which is tied for eighth in the league. In addition, Mills has five double-doubles which is tied for the fifth-most in the A-10.
Mills and the Minutewomen will head to Cincinnati later this week to participate in the Atlantic 10 Tournament as the No. 7 seed. The Minutewomen will take on 10th-seeded St. Bonaventure in the first round Friday at 4:00 PM. The winner will face second-seeded Temple in the quarterfinals Saturday at 4:00 PM. All of the Minutewomen's games from the A-10 Tournament will be broadcast on WMUA, 91.1 FM in Amherst, and online at www.umassathletics.com.
