Erin Parker & Zack Simmons Named UMass Fall Scholar-Athletes

Amherst, Mass. - Field hockey's Erin Parker and soccer's Zack Simmons were honored by the UMass Athletic Department as the Fall Scholar-Athletes of the season. Both student-athletes excelled in the classroom and on the field this fall and were honored at the weekly sports luncheon in the Campus Center. Both Parker and Simmons are members of the Commonwealth College and were instrumental in their teams winning the Atlantic-10 and winning games in the NCAA Tournament.

Parker is a junior with a 3.8 grade point average in the Neuroscience tract of Psychology. On the field, she led the team in assists with five and was second in goals with five. She assisted on two goals in the Atlantic-10 semifinal game with Richmond and scored both goals in the championship game with Saint Joseph's. She was named to the A-10 All-Tournament team and the conference's academic team, as well. Parker was presented for the award by Barry Braun, professor of Kiniesology, and her coach, Justine Sowry.

Simmons is a senior with a 3.99 grade point average in History and Economics. On the field, he was named to the A-10's first team, academic team, and All-Tournament team. He was the Tournament MVP and the A-10's Soccer Scholar-Athlete. At the College Cup, he was named to the All-Tournament and was selected third team All-America. He holds UMass' career records for shutouts and saves. Simmons was presented for the award by Daniel Gordon, professor of History, and his coach, Sam Koch.
