Boston College Head Coach Al Skinner on returning to UMass:
Obviously, being an alum, I'm really happy for the University of Massachusetts, and the manner in which they represented themselves. I'm glad we could be a part of the mixture and overjoyed that we could pull out a win. I truly appreciate the environment that occurs here, and when we see it, I think we respond very well.
Skinner on Jack Leaman's influence:
A lot of things we do are from his teachings. When I'm asked about our offense, I tell people it comes from what I was taught here at UMass. I bring a lot of his education to my game. He was always a resource for me, especially early on in my career. One of his strongest points, and what I hope is a strong point for us, was that he was an excellent teacher. I hope I have the potential to do that. He brought a lot to who I am today, and what I am teaching my guys.
UMass Forward Stephane Lasme on how UMass can improve:
Defense is something we really need to work on. I think everybody on the team knows it. Everybody is trying hard to play defense, but we need to work harder in practice and pick it up as a team. We have to invest in the team, because we are not going to win by outscoring everyone.
UMass Head Coach Travis Ford on the game:
I have to give Boston College all of the credit. They came in here, into a difficult environment, and played tremendous basketball from the tip of the game.
Ford on playing a big game:
I don't know if any of our players have played any big games in college. There have not been any big games where we have been expected to beat a good team in front of a sold out crowd. We need more of these experiences, and we have a lot more coming. This was a learning experience for us, and I thought our crowd was tremendous. I was disappointed that we couldn't give them a win.
Ford on learning from the game:
It was a good learning experience, and I told them, "You have been knocked down, and your back is against the wall, and now you have to respond." It's good for this to happen early in the season. We'd rather win and learn than lose in and learn, but there are some things that came out of this game, that will make us a better team.
