I think people are seeing what he's capable of. The only thing he has to work on is his turnovers. When he can do that, and feel comfortable out there I think he will be very effective. I know him a lot better than most people do, and he actually does a lot better than he did tonight. That's how much confidence I have in him. But he still has to get comfortable on defense and offense. I think that about three games in he will really be able to help our team out a lot.
Rashaun Freeman on the whether or not they needed to win big to be satisfied:
Definitely, because we have some games that we will have to sneak in to get and we have others that we need to take care of. We can't take anyone lightly. We have to leave everything out there. We didn't take this team lightly, because every D-1 team has talent. They can come and get you if you take them lightly.
Freeman on whether or not he was concerned the team was getting too comfortable with the hype:
After a little accident at Albany we knew that we had a long way to get where we wanted to go, and we knew we had to continue to work hard to get where we want to be. Just because people say you are good, it doesn't mean that you are already there. We still have to work hard in practice and take every game one at a time. We have to be lucky as well.
Freeman on the season:
I treat every practice and every game like it's my last, because it is. I'll never get a home opener again.
Tiki Mayben on his game:
When I pass the ball I know that they are going to put it in the basket. There is no better feeling than that. Scoring is my third option.
UMass Head Coach Travis Ford on the game:
What I was most pleased with about this game is that we did what we were supposed to do. I can't say that in the last four or five weeks that we have done that in practice. Our forwards were bigger and stronger, and they really exploited their big guys. Our inside play really opened everything up... I liked our effort.
Gary Forbes on the game:
I was picking and choosing my spots. I wasn't trying to force anything. I was just trying to let the game come to me. After my first put-back, all the jitters went away.
