CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College (7-2) used a 36-2 first-half run to defeat Massachusetts (2-6), 83-44, Thursday night at Conte Forum. Sophomore Whitney McDonald (Ossining, N.Y.) scored a career-high eight points for the Minutewomen. Redshirt senior Katie Nelson (Ellicott City, Md.) led UMass with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point range.

A lay-up by junior Tamara Tatham (Brampton, Ontario) brought UMass within two points, 8-6, with 16:11 left in the first half, but it was all Boston College after that. A 36-2 run by the Eagles over the next 15 minutes gave them control of the game. UMass shot just 14 percent from the field in the first half and found themselves down 44-11 at halftime. UMass was just 4-for-29 from the field while Boston College shot 56 percent (19-for-34). The Eagles out-rebounded UMass 28-12 and scored 13 points off 10 UMass turnovers. The Minutewomen had good looks close to the basket, but were unable to convert. A three-pointer by Nelson in the final minute of the first half prevented UMass from scoring less than 10 points. She had six of the Minutewomen's 11 first-half points.

The Minutewomen could not get any closer than 31 points in the second half.

UMass out-shot BC in the second half 48 percent to 41 percent. The Minutewomen finished the game shooting 31 percent from the field. BC shot 49 percent for the game. The Minutewomen were out-rebounded 50-30 and committed a season-high 27 turnovers. BC held a 42-24 edge in points inn the paint and had 32 points off turnovers as well as 24 second-chance points.

Brooke Queenan led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds.

The Minutewomen will next play Syracuse Saturday in the Carrier Dome. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM. The game will be broadcast live on WMUA, 91.1 FM in Amherst and online at www.umassathletics.com.
