Kate Mills' general comments on the game.
"I think we just came out too flat in the beginning. We just got out-rebounded, out-hustled, and out-smarted. But then I think we had a great last twenty minutes. We played great defense, holding them to only twenty points in the second half. We just need to take the intensity we came out with in the second half and apply it to the beginning of the game."
Kate Mills on last shot of the game.
"I thought it was going to go in. I got a great pick across the lane. I attacked the basket and got a good look. I'm not going to focus on that we just need to come out stronger in the beginning of the game."
Tamara Tatham on the emotion of the game.
"I think the difference in the second half was that we were hitting our shots and focusing more on defense. In the first half, we needed to come out with more emotion, more drive, and better defense."
Coach Marnie Dacko on her overall opinion of the game.
"I'm extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game. We knew we were in for a very athletic game. We knew we needed to be ready to go. We should have been pressing. We just weren't ready to play. We dug ourselves into a hole in the first half but we came back, it's just that we missed too many lay-ups. I had the kids raise their hand if they missed one lay-up and six did. That's twelve points right there."
On Patrycja Gulak starting the game
"We thought that we would be able to work with P at the beginning of the game. We thought she could score. She had a good shoot-around and we had confidence in her, but it didn't work out. It was a hard decision, a hard call."
On second half play
"We overloaded Hofstra with two different offenses. One with three post players, and one with four on one side. We had great looks, moved our shooting from seven feet to two feet. But there are no excuses. We needed to find a way to put the ball in the basket. We have to finish."
On Whitney McDonald, Kate Mills
"When Whitney came in, she did a good job boosting the energy, but it was a little too late. You can't turn it on and off. The play we executed with six seconds was executed to perfection nine out of ten times she would have hit the shot. Every break seemed to go to Hofstra, not UMass. We just couldn't catch a break."
