Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Megan Hannahoe's second goal of the game came with 9:50 left in overtime to give the Temple field hockey team (10-9, 5-1 A-10) a 2-1 win over UMass (6-12, 3-3 A-10) Sunday afternoon at Geasey Field. Senior Jaime Bawden (Penticton, British Columbia) scored for the Minutewomen with just 7:38 left in regulation to tie the game at one.

Temple held the ball for most of the first eight minutes of the game. The Owls had three penalty corners and got two shots on goal, but redshirt junior Heather Ryan (Lowell, Mass.) stopped them both. On Temple's fourth corner later in the half, the first shot was blocked, but Megan Hannahoe was there to stuff in the rebound and give the Owls a 1-0 lead with 20:58 left in the first half.

The Minutewomen responded with offensive pressure of their own following the goal. UMass got its first corner of the half with 19:10 left. Junior Kwylan Jaggassar (Longdenville, Trinidad & Tobago) got a shot off, but Erin Hanshue was there to make the save. UMass got another corner seconds later, but sophomore Nicole Phelan (North Andover, Mass.) had her shot blocked. Minutes later UMass got two more consecutive corners. Jaggassar had a shot blocked on the first one and then Bawden then tried to flick the ball into the cage, but Hanshue knocked it down with her blocker.

In a wild second half that saw UMass Head Coach Patty Shea ejected, scoring chances were few and far between for both teams. UMass had its only corner of the second half with 7:36 left and made the most of it. Senior Katelyn Woolfrey (Somerset, Mass.) took the initial shot and it was saved by Hanshue. The rebound went out to Jaggassar. Her shot was saved, but Bawden was there on the far post to stuff it in and tie the game. Temple had two corners in the final five minutes, but the UMass defense held. Ryan made one save and another shot attempt went wide.

Temple got the first break of overtime and took advantage. A penalty corner was awarded to the Owls with just under 10 minutes remaining. Alli Lockey swung the ball over to Hannahoe on the left side. She blasted the ball past Ryan and gave Temple the win.

Temple held a 13-11 advantage in shots for the game as it was a very defensive match. The Owls had nine penalty corners while UMass had five. Ryan stopped three shots in the cage. Hanshue had five saves on the other side.

The Minutewomen will close out the regular season next Saturday at Rhode Island. Game time is set for Noon and live stats will be available at www.umassathletics.com through Gametracker. UMass can clinch a spot in the A-10 Tournament with a win against the Rams.
