What's On Tap

Massachusetts (6-9, 3-1 A-10) looks for its fourth straight win this afternoon in the final non-conference game of the year. The Minutewomen welcome Dartmouth (5-7, 2-2 Ivy League) to Garber Field for a 5:00 PM Game. UMass is coming off a 2-0 conference weekend where it defeated La Salle (4-1) and West Chester (4-0).

The Series

UMass leads the all-time series against Dartmouth 19-6-1. The Minutewomen won last year's meeting 2-1 in New Hampshire.

Fantastic Freshmen

Of the Minutewomen's 27 goals this season, 11 have been scored by freshmen. Katelyn Orlando leads the way with five goals. Erin Parker, Lauren Gillespie and Mary Shea have two goals apiece. Parker is also second on the team with four assists. Orlando has two helpers.

Dishing It Out

UMass has 26 assists on its 27 goals thus far in 2005. The Minutewomen had only 21 assists all of last season. Senior Patricia Borneo leads the team with six helpers this year. Parker has four, while Katelyn Woolfrey and Kara Murphy each have three.

Solid Debut Heather Ryan made her UMass debut last Sunday in the cage and picked up a win. She entered the game at halftime with the score tied a one apiece. The Minutewomen rallied for a goal with just six-tenths of a second left to give Ryan the win. Ryan, a Lowell, Mass. native, made four saves and allowed just one goal.

In her first collegiate start last Friday against La Salle, she made four saves and allowed just one goal to improve to 2-0.

Parker Honored

Erin Parker was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week this Monday. The South Deerfield, Mass., native had a goal and three assists last weekend.

Parker tallied four points on a goal and two assists. In the Minutewomen's 4-1 win over La Salle set up the first goal of the game. She received a pass from Gina Sanders near midfield and weaved through several La Salle defenders to get the ball into the circle. Parker then drew the goalie out of the net and passed across to freshman Katelyn Orlando who put the ball into the cage.

Parker followed that up with a goal and an assist in UMass' 4-0 win over West Chester Sunday at Garber Field. Parker helped set up the first goal of the game when she again worked through several defenders to set up a penalty corner. UMass scored off the corner for the game-winner. Parker also added an assist and an insurance goal later in the game.

Minutematters

The four UMass goals Friday against La Salle marked its largest offensive output since beating Rhode Island 4-0 on Oct. 17, 2001 ... the Minutewomen followed that up with another four-goal out-burst Sunday against West Chester. The eight goals in two games are the most goals for UMass in a two-game span since it scored eight in consecutive games against Indiana and Harvard during that same 2001 season ... UMass is 2-2 in penalty strokes this year (both coming off the stick of Erin O'Brien) while its opponents are just 1-3 ... dating back to the 2001 season, the Minutewomen have converted four straight penalty strokes ... Borneo's six assists this year are already more than she had in her three previous seasons combined (4) ... UMass has scored the first goal of the game eight times this year and is 5-3 in those games ... The Minutewomen are 4-1 when Orlando scores a goal.
