Kate Mills Named A-10 Rookie Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts women's basketball freshman forward Kate Mills (Elkton, Md.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office this morning. Mills averaged 10.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game last week as Massachusetts went 1-1 to open up league play.
In the conference opener at Temple Tuesday night, Mills broke out for a career-high 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. It marked her first career double-digit scoring performance. Mills also added four rebounds and three steals as well as an assist. In Friday's win over La Salle at the Mullins Center, Mills chipped in with six points, two rebounds and two assists.
For the season, Mills is averaging 4.2 ppg and 2.7 rpg. She also has 10 blocked shots which is second on the team and tied for 11th in the A-10.
Massachusetts (8-5, 1-1 A-10) is in Washington, D.C., for a 2:00 p.m. game this afternoon at George Washington (8-4, 1-0). The Minutewomen have won eight of their last 11 games overall.
