Sports Medicine Emergency Plan

EMERGENCY PERSONNEL
A coach and certified athletic trainer will be on site for all practices and competitions. Additional Sports Medicine Staff can be summoned from the Boyden Athletic Training Room (545-0094). A physician is on call in Urgent Care at University Health Services 24 hours a day, seven days a week (577-5000).
EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION
Additional Sports Medicine Staff or emergency personnel can be contacted by telephone, which is located in Mullins Athletic Training Room (545-9675) by staff or Graduate Assistant athletic trainer's cellular phone.
EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT
Emergency Equipment (Trauma kit, splint kit, AED) will be brought on site for all competitions and practices. Additional equipment will be available from Boyden Athletic Training Room.
ROLE OF FIRST RESPONDER
1) Assess and care for injured or ill student athlete(s). 2) Retrieve emergency equipment. 3) Activate EMS: a) CALL 911. Provide name, address, telephone number, number and condition of injured, first aid care, and specific directions. i) Use of campus telephones will contact University Police, who will dispatch Amherst Emergency Services ii) Use of a cellular telephone will contact the State Police Emergency System the dispatcher will contact Amherst Emergency Services. (1) State the town where emergency services are needed (Amherst). (2) Provide name, address, telephone number, number and condition of injured, first aid care, and specific directions. 4) Assist EMS to injury scene: a) Designate individual to greet EMS and direct to scene. i) Open appropriate gates or doors. b) Scene control: limit scene to first aid providers and move bystanders away from area.
VENUE DIRECTIONS
The Mullins Center is located on Mullins Way. Access is through the Northwest Entrance to the building.
