Maxfield Leads the Women's Ski Team

AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman Ashley Maxfield (Craftsbury Common, Vt.) of the University of Massachusetts women's ski team won both the Slalom and the Giant Slalom races at the Boston College Carnival held at Ascutney Mountain over the weekend. Maxfield finished first out of 51 competitors in the Slalom with a two-run time of 1:43.32 marking the fourth consecutive week she has won the event. In the Giant Slalom she finished first out of 50 competitors with a two-run time of 1:44.48 to mark the second consecutive week she has won the GS. As a team, UMass women's placed third in the Slalom and placed second in the GS.
Also turning in impressive runs for the women in the Slalom was freshman Jen Barranger (Lanesboro, Mass.) who placed 12th overall with a time of 1:52.75. In the Giant Slalom, sophomore Caitlin Doughty (North Quincy, Mass.) turned in a top-10 time of 1:46.18 placing her fifth overall while sophomore Lisbet Rauh (Princeton, Mass.) placed 14th with a time of 1:49.49 to round out the UMass effort.
The UMass women's ski team returns to action this weekend as it travels to Mount Sunapee in Newbury, Vt., for the Colby-Sawyer Slalom Carnival on Friday, Feb. 13. On Saturday, Feb. 14 the teams will travel to Pat's Peak in Henniker, Vt. for the Saint Anselm Giant Slalom Carnival.
