Box Score

WASHINGTON (AP) - Michael Lasme scored 24 points and Anthony Anderson made four free throws in the final 43 seconds Saturday to lead Massachusetts to a 75-70 victory over George Washington.

Lasme shot 9-for-16 from the field as UMass (7-11, 1-5 Atlantic 10) earned its first conference win of the season. One of his three 3-pointers of the game cut the George Washington lead to 41-40 at the break.

Gabe Lee had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Minutemen, who got 13 points from Jeff Viggiano. Anderson had 10 points and six assists.

Chris Monroe scored 28 points to become the second player in George Washington history to reach the 2,000-point plateau. Joe Holup scored 2,226 points from 1953-56.

Monroe reached the milestone by kissing an eight-footer off the glass with 9:49 remaining. He followed with another jumper and an alley-oop assist to Mike Hall for a 65-58 lead with 9:03 left as the Colonials (6-10, 0-5) appeared headed for their first league win.

Lee's layup, however, capped a 7-0 run and gave the Minutemen a 67-66 lead with 3:41 remaining as the Colonials went scoreless until Pops Mensah-Bonsu's free throw with 1:37 left pulled them within two.

That was as close as the Colonials would get.

Mensah-Bonsu finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. Hall added 10 points and eight rebounds for George Washington.
